We believe that God leads us into believing rightly about Who He is and what He intends for us to do. Apart from His word and Spirit, we would not embrace the truth about our true nature and our true needs, and therefore we would invent all manner of self-serving activities to occupy our time and attention... this is the reason why every one of us is a "worshiper." We all occupy our thoughts and devotions with life absorbing pursuits: raising kids, keeping a beautiful yard, maintaining a good reputation, advancing a political cause, investing in the future, enjoying leisure time, and add your favorite hobby here! None of these things are inherently evil; but they may become idols before the true and living God Who deserves our greatest efforts to honor Him in every arena of life. Joining with a church helps us to realign our thoughts, actions, and passions with the very purposes for why God has created us -- to glorify Him and to enjoy Him forever! But how do we get you to believe this? We must pray, proclaim, and provide time and space to hear God's word and train our hearts to walk according to it... to that end, Richland Presbyterian Church has a simple MISSION STATEMENT:
MISSION STATEMENT:
Richland ARP proclaims the glory, love, and holiness of our Triune God through preaching the Bible and discipling Christians toward maturity, family, and community.
This is just a short statement to clarify our goal to grow in faith and service, just as we have been dedicated to for over 155 years. A little bit more about our situation...
Richland Presbyterian Church is located in the historically rural Rosemark district of north Shelby County, TN. Founded in 1866 as an Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Richland has been committed to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ from God's infallible word in the tradition of the Protestant Reformation -- maintaining the standards of the Westminster Confession of Faith. With this foundation, we seek to convict, convert, comfort, and create mature disciples in order that they would worship the correct God, correctly! Today, our congregation seeks to follow the leading of our great King and shepherd, Jesus Christ; committed to growing together as a body of believers in the faith, hope, and love as is characterized by all those who enjoy their union with Christ. Therefore, as the Holy Spirit leads, we seek to share our lives, property, and ministries with all those who wish to praise and worship the true and living God. We welcome all to gather with us as we sincerely seek to honor the Lord as His word commands!
